If you like this, please check out this piece: [link] , I think it's much better :D

So I finally got around to doing another fanart... let me tell you that you don't have to be a teenager to be a rabid fangirl. :D

This is Edward Elric, from Fullmetal Alchemist; the reference used is from the movie, so this is an adult Ed.

Materials: Charcoal (2B, 4B, 6B Condensed black, medium vine black, white condensed), kneaded rubber eraser, pink pearl plastic eraser (in fact at the moment I am stil playing with the kneaded eraser)

The technique is charcoal reduction. First you blacken in the whole page and "draw" using your erasers, along with layering with different charcoals. It is very messy. I love it. When I get time I think I will do a whole series of these.

It took a little less than 3 hours to finish. Original size is 11"x14"

Wow, wonderful charcoal work! I love working with that stuff. But I can never find the time to buy it.

Well, I see you got happy :giggle: with the charcoal again  ! The :deviation: came out really well. Did you read :bookdiva: the journal from Bacardibabe? She is quitting :devart: and is now deleting items from her :gallery: ~ only the rabbit is left in the :gallery: and there's still :deviation: in her scraps ~ bummer ~ :sadangel: ~ Parks Gal :rose:

Thank you!

I still have tons left over from my art class, and the bookstore is a half a block down the street, so I have easy access to more when I need it. It would be a pain to have to drive out somewhere to buy supplies.

Thanks! I learned the technique in my art class. I've thought maybe I should do a tutorial on how to do it? It is fast becoming my favorite way to do things. So much easier than sketch erase, sketch erase, sketch erase...

Thank you so much!

Me loves the messy! Although I will be picking black out from under my fingernails for the rest of the day :giggle:

There was a girl in our art class last quarter who could do an 18"X24" charcoal reduction without geting any on her hands! :faint: The rest of us were always in constant amazement. Wouldn't work for me though, since I actually use my fingers to rub the charcoal in. Funny thing is, I detest finger paints. Yuck. Chalk I can live with, but not gooey cold wet paints. :D

You're very welcome! I know, I hated how my hands looked after every art class.

Wow! She didn't get her hands dirty at all?? Now that is crazy:XD:
I rub it in too but I usually use a blender or a paper towel, just to save the mess:D
I agree on the fingerpaint thing....gross:P

:D I did initially use a paper towel, but to get the really black parts, the paper takes off too much charcoal, hence the finger rub.
